RIGHT ON TIME

And kicking off our 10 year anniversary shows tonight!

It’s the morning of our first of two 10th Anniversary shows for AYFB here in Charlottesville. A lot of you might be reading this from your hotel room not too far from mine. Both shows will be sold out and it seems like the truest Dawesians are showing up in full force for this one. It’s deeply appreciated. It doesn’t matter what you do for a living, sometimes it’s easy to feel like it’s not enough, or you did it wrong, or it doesn’t even mean anything. I know I can sink into that sometimes. More than I’d care to admit. But it’s moments like this that bring around a heap of gratitude. Here we are gathering and celebrating a piece of music we made 10 years ago in front of friends that are bordering on family at this point. The fact that the album still has a life, let alone it being worth celebrating, means the world to me. Thank you thank you thank you.

I’ve got the demo of Right On Time added here for the paid subscribers. I remember practicing and practicing that guitar riff to get it right and make sure all the open strings were ringing out the way they should. For all you guitar players - it’s not played in the obvious way, I promise. It’s wild to hear all of the original lyrics I mostly forgot about. Most of the changes they were made were just minor tweaks EXCEPT for the last line of the chorus being lopped off. The shift in tenses just never fully worked and it ended up saying everything it needed to say without it.
